My Story...
Did you ever wonder as a teenager what you would do with yourself? I did!! So, as a teenager, I tried alcohol and drugs. As a child, I had witnessed my mom drink alcohol; then, I watched her recover and never drink alcohol again. Thus was born my inspiration to be whatever I wanted to be.
My inspiration led me to take the pathway of nursing. And today, 34 years later, I am glad I decided to travel this route. I am a Baccalaureate Degree Registered Nurse specializing in the treatment of alcohol and drug addiction. My skills are plied at the Johns Hopkins Hospital Outpatient Substance Abuse Treatment Center in East Baltimore.
Wanting to see peoples' lives changed and loving the field of addiction treatment so much, led me to start my own business - McCray Lectures, LLC, in 2011. McCray Lectures, LLC, is an outreach business purposed to provide community education about alcohol, heroin, cocaine, nicotine, marijuana, and K2 spice or synthetic marijuana.
Making a difference in peoples' lives is one of the most exciting and fulfilling aspects of my life!!
And, as if this were not enough, I have also authored four books. "Pushing On - Wonderful Stories about the Life of Josephine Jordan," is an inspirational memoir and tribute to my mom's wisdom and the principles she imparted to her children and now to the world. "Mixing," dealt with the importance of healthy relationships within the context of pleasures and consequences of sexual relations. My third book, "Valuable - You're Too Good to be Addicted," is both an inspirational and informative book about overcoming alcohol and drug addiction and a tool to help families and friends of those trapped in addiction. Most recently, I wrote, "Methadone: You Should Know Me by Now," a straightforward talk about a medication to help individuals with an Opioid Use Disorder find help.
Recently, I have written “Get That Book Written: Amazing Tips for New Authors.” It’s an incredible book filled with helpful tips to help new authors complete their book. Also, I’m on Facebook every 1st and 3rd Monday at 7:30 PM on “The Book Spot,” as I encourage writers to complete their book.
I could not do any of these inspirational, motivational, and community-oriented activities without the love and support of my family. Family is first!! So I gratefully acknowledge my wife, Shawanda, and our son, Goshen, with whom I enjoy my life in Baltimore, Maryland.
